Just took possession of Nikon D700 and card reader when connected to MacPro Laptop doesn't read anything from the D700. Tried 3 different cards (32G, 18G & 8G), and two different readers. In test with my backup Nikon D300, everything working normally.

I reformat all cards after each assignment, for what it's worth.

Am I overlooking something so obvious it escapes me? Have never experienced this before. Your advice/observations would be valued in that I've a photo assignment today. Thanks.

I would suggest downloading the latest Codec from Microsoft, but that is not for a Mac. I am sure Apple offers the equivalent Codec upgrades somewhere though.

Which program are you trying to use to read the cards?

I'm downloading direct to my Laptop HD via card reader before importing to Lightroom 5.

Sounds like you may need a driver for that card reader.

I use the Transfer function in Nikon View NX2 to transfer photos to my computer from SD cards. I use a Lexar card reader. I don't understand why you're able to transfer your D300 files and not your D700 files. Nikon View NX2 is a free download. You could try that. It creates a new folder for you when it transfers.

Does Lightroom not recognise the card?

Connect reader, open Lightroom, goto the import screen and look at the top of the left hand panel for D700

Do you shoot in RAW mode? I had trouble getting my Linux based computer (I only do Windows when it is necessary) to recognize my SDs. I now open Raw Therapee first and have no problems. I do shoot a D60 but NEF files are NEF files.

I have found this issue also. I even lost pictures in the process. Now I only download via direct connect to the camera and only due a few at a time if I have a large amount.

Hmmm! Yet another "Lightroom Problem" .. I do Not have it... And from all that I read about the problems with it. I will stay with Opening in Bridge and Camera RAW to go into CS-5.

If the images are not getting into the Mac I don't think it fair to say Lightroom is the problem, the OP said his workflow was to put images on to his computer, then import into LR. It is the first part that is not working.

To eliminate the card reader try this. Hold down the option key and start iPhoto. When the window appears click the "Create New Library and then try to import some of your photos into the new library. If that works Then I have no idea what is wrong. If it doesn't work then you have a bad card reader.
