I found a solitary fly today as I trekked about the yard. Pickin's are getting slim.
Canon 5D Mk II at ISO 200, with Canon EF100mm Macro lens, 1/200-sec at f/11, 1st-curtain sync, Canon 580EX II speedlight with 6x8-inch softbox diffuser.

Well you are in "bug country"-- so I'm looking forward to seeing what you can find.

Pickin's are gettin' slim around here too. However, I'm looking forward to an open house at the local bug warehouse, yes, "bug warehouse", this Sat. with Douglass :-D

They have live and not so alive insects-n-such from around the world. I expect I will be bringing some home with me :)

Very nice fly capture. DoF is really good

Ran one of the sharper images through Lightroom and tweaked it a bit. Trimmed for detail of course.
I tried to shoot a few extras for stacking but he was just to skittish to sit still for it.

Thanks for the compliment and wow. that sounds like it should be fun. Store bought bugs. whouda thunkit.
Just noticed your in Redondo Beach. I went to Honda training there in the late 70's. Spent two weeks there and had a great time walking the beach at night much to some of the locals surprise. never had any issues but kept them worried about me.

Thanks Craig, I really wanted mainly the head on this fly because of the gold coloring.

I should keep that information to yourself or you may be grounded.

Thank you Brenda. Some of this is starting to come together. Part equipment and part patience.
