I'm looking for the filter that makes rays of light that eminate from street lights, head lights, flashlights, etc.
Does anyone what they are called?

I have never seen a ready made filter, what I do is to make a rectangular selection to cover the area of the beam, transform the selection so that the start point is as narrow as the light source and the other end is as wide as you want. Add a brightness layer to the selected area, and add a graduated filter to the beam to simulate light fall off.

Tiffen makes a starlight filter. Take a look Here.

Ah, the responses suggest you were looking for a starburst filter, not a lightbeam ray filter - I goofed.

They are called star filters and commonly come in 4, 6, and 8 points. Fun to play with. For the 4 point make sure to get one that is a two piece and rotates to give the desired alignment of the points. otherwise the 4 rays of light can end up at odd angles. Not so noticeable with 6 & 8 points.

Okay. Good thought. Thanks.

Or you can go "adventurous":
Set your lens to a small aperture, adjust Iso and exposure and see if that doesn't make stars.
Have a look here:

Cokin calls them Star filters. A Star-4 gives four streaks of light from each source bright spot of light: a Star12 gives twelve points, etc. you can view all Cokin filters at

http://www.cokin.co.uk/pages/filters.htm

Some other filter companies call these filters stars or diffractors. Most good filter companies (B+W, Hoya, Lee, Singh-Ray, Tiffen, etc) make similar filters. Star filters are best used in moderation.
