Rumor has it Canon will release a successor to the T5i in the first part of 2015. You may wish to wait for it before buying.

If you cannot, then you may wish to consider the T4i. I own and use this fine camera. The T5i does not offer that much over the T4i. You could pick up the T4i as used or refurbished.

Happy Holidays.

I just bought a T5i with two lenses, the std EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, and then the EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 lens. I also got a remote shutter release, Transcend 300x 32gb card, extra battery, and the "Canon EOS Rebel T5i/700D for DUMMIES" book to help a dummy such as myself ... hee hee. Barely used it so far, but initial pics are promising. Hope to try it out some more this afternoon at our local Christmas Parade after church this morn, and then we have some fabulous Christmas lights downtown at the Santee Cooper Complex which I'll do maybe tomorrow evening, using the tripod. Stay tuned!

I own both the 4ti and the 5 ti. Bought 4ti new. Bought 5ti used, along with good non-canon grip, 2 canon bat, Chgr, strap, for $500.

Love both. Quality is superb. Use 4ti with canon 10-22, and 5ti with canon 70-300L and Tamron 150-600.

5ti and 4 have same sensor, controls, flip screen. 5 has a few more movie features over 4, but nothing earth shattering.

Either one will do you good. Look for used ones on eBay, cl, and at camera swap meets. Plenty of mint used gear at 40 to 50% discounts. Warranty is non concern. Gone after 1 year. Just verify before you buy. Even eBay, with pay pal, protects you with full money back within 60 days.

Otherwise, if you uncomfortable playing in the used market game, pay more and go new.

5 ti (and 4) are fantastic for money. Best price/ quality ratio Canon has. Image quality equal to 6D and 7d in good light. Body is good, 6&7 a bit better ( more air tight), but overall, 5 ti unbeatable for quality it delivers for 1/2 to 1/3 the price point if other over priced canon ( new) gear.

Then you may wish to consider the Canon 6D, too. This fine camera has very effective noise control. With it and the right lens, you could do near all your general photography.

I just received my T5i recently so my T2i is now the backup/second body. So far I really like the T5i and its capabilities. Of course I'm upgrading from a T2i making it a case of looking up. Ask someone that owns a 70D and they'll give you a different opinion.
I've only played around with the movie mode but its focusing abilities leaves my T2i definitely in the bag just in case.
Surprisingly I'm also liking the Touchscreen for adjusting settings quickly. I'd even made certain that I'd be able to disable that before purchasing the camera but having received it and tried it out wanted to make sure that the screen protector didn't interfere.
Can't wait to leave the off-camera cord home!

Rumor about the new Rebel is announcement within the next two months, and that it may be a much more significant upgrade than the T2i, T3i,T4i, T5i sequence.

Probably worth waiting, it shouldn't be long...

Good luck

Looking forward to the next iteration in the Rebel line. My T4i serves me well with its new Sigma 17-70mm lens on it. I hope the next Rebel controls noise better, noise being the only significant shortcoming of the T4i, IMHO.

Where may I ask did you hear the rumor about the next Rebel?
