I just purchased a Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 1855mm and 55200mm Lenses will be in on Monday and have 15 days to return. Is this a good camera? I am a beginner.

Welcome to the Hog.
The kit you purchased is a great choice for your first DSLR. It will tackle most anything you might encounter though in the future depending on your specific photographic interests you may want to add a lens or two to your inventory. ;)

It truly is a very good forum, but mostly Canikon in nature. I very rarely hear much about the brand of camera and the system that I prefer. So if you go with canon or MAYBE EVEN NIKON, you absolutely have found a great forum to attend, for great advice and good CAMARADERIE. "CAMERA oddery" if you like. RJM

Great choice to begin with. As a beginner, I would suggest finding a photography night class perhaps at an adult education center. It will make it easier to get familiar with some of the more unique camera features.

Welcome to the Force...

You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...

Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)

A couple of links to help you navigate the forum and a couple of resources to hopefully answer your questions or guide you in your quest...

Ask away and post away - looking forward to seeing some photos.

It is a very good choice. Just be sure that the lenses are VR lenses. Some less expensive kits have the older non-VR lenses. VR is Nikon's designation for stabilized lenses. It should say VR on the lenses.

The older non-VR lenses are not bad lenses, but the VR lenses besides having the VR are somewhat better lenses. However, if they are non-VR lenses, and if money is tight and you got a good price it may be worth keeping them.

I got that camera last year with the 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses. I think it's a great camera that will give you plenty of features without becoming overwhelming. I suggest you pick up the book 'D5200 for Dummies'. It is a much easier read than the Owners Manual and will give usage tips that you won't find in the Owners Manual.

Good choice, and you have a nice combination of lenses. Start on Auto and gradually move to Aperture. That camera can keep you learning for years. There is a lot of online info and tutorials available.

Take a look at CreativeLive. They have very good courses, which are free to watch. Here's one on the D5200.

It's a good camera.

It's your first serious camera.

It's not your last, if you get serious with photography.

If you advance rapidly, you will find needs for a second camera to fill.

You bought a good start. Don't marry yourself to it as you advance. If it fulfills your needs, don't get anxious about whether it's the best camera. It IS the best until you yourself determine what it does NOT do that you need, and what camera will replace it.

There is no Best first camera. There is just your first entry level camera. This does that as well as any other.

Very good camera. Don't worry about a thing. As you get more experience, you will find that you want a camera that has more functions not buried in the menu. But then you might not, and you will be happy forever.

Enjoy it and happy learning.
