As Traveler mentioned there's the Suffolk County Meetup group. If you go to Meetup.com ("There's an App for that.") you'll find more Meetup groups.
There are several you might be interested in. Although I don't live that far from you; Pt. Lookout, I have seen no Nassau Cty groups. They all seem to be in Suffolk.
I've been on several very productive outings with one or two of these groups including Old Westbury Gardens, Greenwood Cemetery (in Brooklyn) Essex Train Museum and Steamboat, a nature center in Oceanside, and a seal watch last year at Jones Beach. Maybe you can contact Linda_K. She's from a little further out on L.I., but I know she has great suggestions for places to go.
If you're not too particular about a female camera buddy, I might be able to tag along, but walking is not one of my specialties.
