If memory serves, there are only a handful of people in the US who can positively identify shrooms with any accuracy but offhand I would advise against eating them. :)

Sorry, I have no idea...

It would be happier if I wasn't at work but somehow I have managed to stay fat and happy anyway. One of my co-workers left the building for a while and came back with a handful of pumkin spice cupcakes and then followed that up with some of his wife's green chili and the woman I replaced from day shift left me raspberry cheesecake and pecan pie. I'm getting bigger just thinking about it. :)

They are poisonous. One of the easiest to recognize mushrooms growing in the wild. These are of the strain that show very little body affects for the first three days. After that the nerve damage is permanent. Death is about five days after much pain. Do you still want to try eating them. Can't remember the name right off hand, but always shown as a warning when google ing eatable mushrooms. A rule of thumb is "if its pretty, stay away from it." If you handled it, wash your hands.

I have a dear friend, whose knowledge of mushrooms is beyond belief.  She can identify mushrooms  with unbelievable accuracy.  She knows mushrooms so well, she can identify by sight, by photographs, even by verbal descriptions.  In fact several hospitals have her name and contact info, and will call her whenever they have suspect mushroom poisoning.  She knows the symptoms as well as antidotes and treatments.  A great friend.

I guess her knowledge is natural, her first husband, may he rest in peace, died from eating poisonous mushrooms.  Horrible death.  As a awful coincidence, her second husband also passed away from eating poisonous mushrooms, truely a dreadful death and awful coincidence.

Her third husband died from an hunting accident, seems he wouldn't eat no damn mushrooms.

Yes, I refuse to allow truth to get in the way of a good story.  BTW, her advise is all mushrooms are edible, some ONLY ONCE.  When in doubt, she recommends steak.

Hi Oxoeod. Great variation of an old joke. Now that I'm a little more awake and without checking, I think the name of the mushroom is something like anamida, but I'm too stubborn to actually check it on line.

Just checked on line and found that I'm not far off the correct spelling. The mushroom is a member of the amanita family. Causing liver damage within hours and has a 20% death ratio when treated quickly. I also learned that an eatable mushroom, the shaggy mane, when eaten with alcohol or if one consumes alcohol within three days of eating the mushroom will cause some severe problems. That explains why when I gave a whole bag of them to a co worker, he got really sick for a few days. At the time, he and I though it was because he cooked and consumed the whole bag in one sitting. I had long suspected him to be a drinker, and I guess that was true. If I knew, I would have told him.

Mushrooms,,,, Clint Eastwood.... Movie "The Beguiled." In the end, the gals at the Civil War Girl's School are not so Civil...the Red Top Mushrooms were picked just for Yankee Clint. Leon S says: Death is about five days after much pain.

I work in the Segregation Unit of a Correctional Facility. Several of us thought it might be fun to lock the doors and shut the computers off that control the doors so they would stay put but logic dictates that the Department of Corrections would take a dim view of such things. Then again, some people refuse to behave like civilized people so there would be that inevitable biohazard waste to clean up. :?
