Dumb Bunny - Can't even work a tripod

This is an embarrassing way to join this community but I already have a problem with my recently purchased camera.

Specifically, I attached my camera to the cheap tripod that came with it, and while trying to swivel the angle, the connecting piece suddenly came loose, and is now on the bottom of the camera. I can't figure out how to get it off. I took a photo of the problem with my iPhone, since I obviously can't take a picture with the camera itself.

For what it's worth, it looks like I can reattach the rectangular piece back onto the tripod, but is there a way to get the errant attachment rectangle free from the bottom of the camera? It doesn't seem to want to turn with gentle pressure and I'm fearful of forcing it.

A pair of pliers will remove the reversible stud (the chrome part) in the picture. Then do yourself a favor and throw away that free tripod and get a better quality unit before that thing falls over and destroys the fine camera you bought.

My pleasure to help. But I am no genius, just a photographer.

Outside of the Purchase of the Camera (any) and the Lens (any) the Next Important buy should be the support system that will hold Steady the camera and the heaviest lens in your arsenal ....

The "Rule of Thumb" seem to be = Take the total weight of the Camera and Largest lens and buy a tripod that is equal OR More in weight. This would not include the Ball-Head that you would decide to have on the tripod proper.

Personally I use an old Gitzo aluminum articulated tripod with a Manfrotto IK-714265 Ball Head. And I have used this to support Not Only my Canon 5D with Battery Grip and a Tamron 150-600mm lens == But TOO my old Crown Graphic 4X5 and my Berke and James "Orbit" 4X5 view camera. I have NOT used it to support the Ansco 8X10... THAT has it's Own tripod that will support a camera of that weight.
This system has worked for me for the past 8 years.
