Gotta go with color here. Just seems to have more impact, especially in the expression of its eyes.

I personally like the B&W because I am drawn to the eyes and facial features. I suspect it is the strong contrast as well.

Red fox...gotta love the color! Beautiful...the eyes are almost the exact color of her fur coat.

Thanks for your comments. I think so far the color has it. That is my favorite. Do you think the b&w would go over at a photoclub b&w contest?

I think the B&W is very dramatic and should do well in competition.

I would go with the color. The reason to use monochrome is the dramatic separation that can be done, or the enhance tonal separation. This print does not contain these. The color has sufficient separation, and the color brings the image a sense of intimacy that the monochrome lacks.

I will confess I do not usually like digital monochrome. The range of tones is too shallow.

Good pic.

Color version wins. B&W version has little impact.

An animal's colouring is a large part of its identity. A capture that doesn't include its colouring is a very incomplete capture.

For some reason I could not download the BW version so I can't really say which I like better.

As for comments. You nailed the focus, a great shot, but the final image feels a tad out of balance to me. The fox is looking directly at the camera, but there is a lot of space to the left competing for my eye's attention.
.....I'm just saying.

Our club has been running a B&W Facebook posting thing. While not a fan of B&W I have been impressed by some of the images.

It is my view that only certain images lend themselves to B&W. Images that seek to bring back old times being one category. But the broader category is those where color isn't important or might even detract such as where the focus is on lines or texture. For me color is what makes the fox so not a great candidate.

color seems to show much finer detail. Good one
