We have used Norton products since 1995 and never had a problem until recently. All of a sudden after Norton "finds and fixes" a threat a message pops up that says it is required to restart my computer to complete the process. It has never ever not one time asked me to do that before. Has anyone else had it do this?

IMO Norton has not been at the top of its game in a long time.
I'd check out AVG, Kaspersky, and Avast.

The latest scan on my system needed a restart also - I think it found something in the registry and generally, if there is a registry hack, a restart is needed... I didn't bother to research it because, like you, I've used Norton/Symantec for awhile with no issues.
