I updated LR 5 the other day and it did work but sluggishly but now won't even open. I did some troubleshooting but now it's telling me it's incompatible with my system. ????? I didn't change my system! I run Windows 8.1. Any words of wisdom?
I had a similar issue when I installed LR 5 on an older Intel iMac. The processor was not compatible with the new version of Lightroom.
How old is your computer and what kind of processor? You may have to upgrade.
Try checking with Adobe to see if LR 5 is compatible with your computer's processor.

Have not had this problem YET. Not sure but I would uninstall LR5.?, clean the registry and reinstall. Best of luck. Wisner suggestion is valid.

Maybe I should have been more specific. I had LR 5 running just fine on my brand new Dell All-in-One with Windows 8.1 but I got an update notice for LR5 so I went ahead and updated. I've had slow down issues since then but NOW LR5 won't even open. Thanks for chiming in.

I was wondering if I needed to uninstall and reinstall and hoping I didn't. Don't know how to clean registry. Thanks for your advice.

I've used Wise registry and disk cleaner for a year now I like it and with no problems best of all it's free.
Thanks! I just did. Was considering that from the beginning but I see so many reference to LR in this section so.....now it's in both. (-:
If you are using an old LR shortcut to open LR 5.7, it will not work.
Shut down your computer and reboot. Navigate to where the Lightroom catalogue is stored and look in that folder for a file which has "lock" in it. If you find that file, delete it. Now find the LR.exe file, and double click on that. See if LR opens.
Please report back, there are a few other ways to open LR before trying to reinstall and replicate the errors.
Is your version of LR from a disc/download or CC?

On my Win 8, each time I install a new dot release the installation process throws away my old link so I never have an issue, including going to 5.7.
If I'm not mistaken, LR uninstalls the older version and then re-installs the new as opposed to just updating a subset of files as other products do. Somewhat timely between the download and install but the cleanest way to go.

Not exactly, prior to LR 5.7, old versions were left on the computer, but shortcuts were updated. A couple of weeks ago I uninstalled LR 5.3 and 5.4
When 5.7 was brought in a few days ago, 5.6 did actually vanish into the ether, but the desktop shortcut remained, and was linked to the now non-existent 5.6.
A simple fix and all is well.
I have noticed though, that downloaders in the Americas are slightly different to those in Europe and Australia. I used to believe we all got the same downloads, but when I was comparing some menus in Bridge and Photoshop with other members, the differences became apparent. I still don't know if we are all on the same page now, but I tend to view different occurrences and events with an open mind.

Then we have different install processes. I looked at my system and I have only copy of LR installed on my system. I went looking thinking it there were some older versions chewing up space, I would erase them. None of the older kids were home. :)
What is the chance there are some differences between starting with the cloud version versus from a CD. I started with the CD.

Hi Searcher! Thanks for chiming in. My original version of
LR 5 was a download. As for this issue it's working again. I re-booted as you recommended and then went to my downloads folder and found the 5.7 folder and clicked on the exe file. During the install it asked me if I wanted to fix 5.7 or uninstall it. I chose the fix option and now it's working. 5.3 is still there, too. I'll keep it until I actually use this one. I think I had the old LR running when I agreed to this update which is probably what fouled things up. I also likely was still using 5.3 when I thought I was using 5.7. Not very computer savvy, I admit. lol Anyway, it seems I'm back in business now. Thanks so much for your help. Back to work for me.

Glad it's working. When you do uninstall LR5.3, make sure all versions of LR are closed.
