I like your thought process. Might I suggest you try to use the Rule of Thirds toiimprove your composition?
Place your horizon on either one of the horizontal third lines. And place the moon on that magic 3rd spot, the intersection of the verticle third line and the horizontal third line.
I do beleive you are on the road to some extremely pleasing and satisfying photos.
Good luck, looking forward to seeing some great seascapes.

Thanks very much for your advice! I will try that. I shoot wildlife most of the time.....a hobby that I truly love. I'm trying to expand my horizons a bit now but have much to learn.
These are really lovely. I love the light on the Sea Oats. I think the second one is more interesting with more of the beach showing and the balance of the composition is a little better IMHO. Both are well photographed.
I agree with Vicki re #2. The sand in front, seeing more of the grasses (down to the ground), the ocean waves - all very pleasing. Ideally, I'd like to see the moon a little more to one side of the other.
I've been experimenting with landscapes lately. What are your thoughts on these?
Like them both Lamar, but #2 is my favorite, I like the composition better, you are not looking through a bunch of sea oats like #1, I like the balance of beach and oats, #2 for me, well done

Thanks Vicki! I was just experimenting....trying to get a feel for landscapes. You know I would prefer an animal in the photo. :) I'll be back out shooting wildlife again right away but will keep trying the landscapes along the way.

Thanks Linda! I agree. I like #2 best for the reasons you stated. I will shoot more seascapes and when the moon is in the right position in a couple of weeks try this again.
