Not feeling it... Playing around with composing a still life..

Please critique and would also love to hear how you would arrange these items..

This is straight from the camera without any editing which is unusual for me..

I think my Wife likes that fact I am attempting this because I am washing the dust of a few things from on top of the kitchen cabinets.. :)

I think due to it's size the wine bottle would look better more toward the back looks out of balance...good luck...

If I was shooting this set up I would try the following. Floral middle right edge, fruit right front corner, glass front off center with cork front center, wine bottle left rear corner and candle center rear but being slightly forward.
Second one better than first.

Try different angles, such as a diagonal. . .and raise the camera to look down on the fruit. Come closer and isolate some of the items for a different emphasis.

Balance of objects is off too center weighted. Second one had good balance.

No. 1 with the pot plant removed would have more atmosphere I think...

I am going to leave this setup out to play with, but hitting the sack soon because 4:00am rolls around fast these days...

I have several suggestions. Use as you see fit. Rather than write a whole paragraph, I will just toss out some bullet points. My comments may seem rather abrupt this way, but that takes less time:

Start by flipping the arrangement....bottle on right, not left....look at it in the mirror to get an idea of what I mean.

Crop......too much empty space. The wooden stand should run from side to side.

Consider a vertical or square format.

The plant is distracting.....see if you can replace it. At any rate, the mass of fronds is pointing out of the pictures.....rotate it so it points back in. If you flip the arrangement, don't "flip" that.

Move all the items a bit closer together, so they overlap more.

Consider moving the candle to the center a bit more, and put it on something or get a longer candle so that it is a good bit taller than the bottle.

Fill up the bowl with fruit, and let that be your center of interest.

Put something in the background...wallpaper, wood panel.....leave it dark, but the black void does not work for me.

A small detail...rotate the cork so it leads the eye into the picture. As it is, I feel it blocks the eye.

Hope this helps and does not upset you.

Perfect image by raising and rotating the camera position. Now, move close to the fruit on the right side with a wide f/stop to blur the items behind. You've done good. Stop now and drink the wine.
