I thought that I saw a reference to a December ship date on one of the Canon rumor sites.

Canons forecasted ship date is "December 2014", they have not pinned it down better than that as of yet. I think a few of the early pre-orders may get into customers hands before Christmas, but would think January is more when larger numbers will be shipping.

When the 7D MK II became available for pre order all retailers initially indicated "late Nov." as an approx. ship date. It began shipping in late Oct. so ya never know...

I had the 100-400 zoom and loved the images but did not like the push-pull zoom. Now, it is a rotating zoom and has been upgraded all around. Will be a top seller for Canon because the old one was a superb lens.

Interesting point. I know several people who use and love this lens. Will they switch, and buy the new version? How do the present owners feel about the possible de-valuation of an old and trusted friend? At whom is Canon targeting this version? This new lens isn't cheap, so it isn't a spontaneous pick-up. Est. shipping date of 12/29/14 and price of $2200 will tell us how well this new lens will be received. This is an interesting move on the part of Canon.
