Looking around on the web and came across this lens. Has any one heard about this lens and if so how good is it or how bad is it?

Made under several names: Bower, Samyang, Rokinon, Vivitar...

Key features, or lack thereof, from B&H:

This extreme 650-1300mm f/8-16 Manual Focus Lens from Bower is an economical way to achieve some ultra-telephoto photography, all the way up to 1300mm. This is a T-mount lens, which means that aperture is not communicated to or controlled by the camera body , and as such must be used only in aperture-priority autoexposure mode (if your camera has it) or in the manual exposure mode. There are T-mounts available for every modern DSLR system as well as for older film cameras and even C-mount cameras.

It will work on both "full frame" digital cameras as well as the smaller-format APS-C (15 x 22mm) cameras, but has only one effective aperture at any focal length, which varies from f/8.0 at 650mm to f/16.0 at 1300mm. That's not much of a hindrance, however, as you'd likely use this lens at its relatively small maximum aperture in any case.

Its a fun toy, but don't expect any fine art results from it. A tripod is "Required" as it is way too slow to shoot handheld and all functions will be in Manual only. At least they are cheap and you can mount it on pretty much ANY camera just by changing out the T-mount adapter.

Thanks for the info. I don't think this is for me yet. I still have too much to learn before I can do anything with this lens.

From what I have heard, it is great to carry around with your D800 and nifty fifty. You can bop someone over the head with it if they try to steal your "real" stuff.

It's a waste of money. The performance is sub-par, it won't even come close to a Sigma or Tamron telephoto lens.

Or a bridge camera, for that matter

Like MTShooter said it is a fun toy. But it is a lens. I have an older version that was only to 500 as well as an older Spiratone 500 Mirror Minitel. I am happy with both and use a doubler. True, pics are not the quality of named lenses but still not bad and a fun, cheap and easy way to get into very long distance. Also, because they are T mounts all you need to do is buy is a $10 adapter to switch camera brands. Another plus is education for yourself. These are manual only lenses so you will really get a lot of experience with manual adjustments. I am planning to buy one myself once I can convince my wallet that I have not yet spent enough $$ on camera equipment this year.

The only thing I know about them, is to stay away from them.

This is a fun lens and does as well as the price. No it is not like expensive glass but is pretty decent and for distant landscapes or buildings over a mile away works. There is no diaphragm so you cannot stop it down, uses the T adaptor for any camera, must use a tripod. I have all top glass but this lens but I still find it a fun lens and it goes with me as I travel. Go on you tube and see what real users say.
