You're probably pretty proud of your beautiful Nikon Df. Beware! The next time you're in a crowd of photographers, you might see someone with this special Df.

I wonder if it comes with a bodyguard to keep one from being conked over the head and this gem stolen. Sheesh what a disgusting display of extravagance LOL.

I don't think it's still an option, but a lot of cars offered the option of having all those chrome logos, etc., done in gold. The dealer had to peel off the silver and stick on gold-colored versions. When I saw a car with them drive by, I had to ask myself: Why?

Actually, I don't think it looks too bad at all. Might make a nice addition to my pair of Df's I already have, one Black and one Silver. And the price is only $100 over either of them. But with it having only a run of 600 units and only available in Japan, the likelihood of ever even seeing one is kind of slim over here.

Everything I have is Nikon "gold" - all overpriced.

Pretty cool looking camera but in a crowd, the camera screams out...hey, look at me! I'd rather have the two tone silver and black. If it sells well in Japan, you can bet it will be on sale in America also.

If you're into disassembly, I'm sure you could find a plater who could make it gold. :D

From the distance, that special Nikon Df kind of looks like a Canon T-90, with the matte-gold lettering on black.

Talk about heavy! That's not what I'd take on an extensive vacation.

Some good comebacks! Love the gold plated camera!

Traditionally Nikon used the gold ring on lenses to denote professional quality: higher quality glass; faster; and built solidly to withstand professional (ab)use. So is that the case here? Or has Nikon's marketing department seized on the idea to mine gold from their customers by simply putting the gold symbol on hardware with no appreciable upgrade in quality?

The recent release of the 10-24mm F4 with a gold ring, would seem to indicate the latter. A decent lens it is but it's not a professional quality lens in the spirit of the older gold ring lenses.

Is mediocrity is the new gold standard? If that is the case then maybe they should use bronze.
