Using the cropping tool in LR

When using the rectangular cropping tool in LR, the tool will orient its longest (shortest) dimension to the longest (shortest) dimension of the original image; i.e., the cropping tool defaults to the same orientation as the original image. Question: How do I rotate the cropping tool 90 degrees, so that I can crop an image, which was taken vertically, horizontally?

Press "x" on your keyboard and the cropping box will re-orientate itself.

Searcher, thank you for your quick reply to my cropping tool question.

I'm from the old school that dictates, first and foremost, cropping in the camera. Discovered in PP, however, that one of my hastily "snapped" vertical images was better cropped horizontally, especially since I later realized that top and bottom of the original image contributed nothing to the photograph.

Thank you again for your help and expertise.

You are most welcome. I prefer all cropping in LR rather than the camera simply because I can achieve different crops from the same image many times over.

I have one photograph which I have cropped in differing ways dozens of times and each crop produces a different perspective on the subject. Still only got one original image.
