camera setting night work

I've seen topics about both star trails and some where just the stars/planet showed with no movement can someone tell me what the spread of those setting

Star tails. Open 'er up and let 'er sit. No wriggling, though. The stars are painting with light making arcs as the earth turns.


Stars Fixed. Relatively short exposures of a few seconds, or tie onto a tracking mechanism like a "barn door" or telescope with that capability for a long exposure.

You don't get noticable star trails in exposures up to around 30 seconds. Even with more exposure you only get oblong stars until the exposure is long enough to produce trails instead of blobs.

The longer the exposure the dimmer the objects you have showing up.

Thanks! I saw one picture on "The Ugly" that I thought the exposure was about 90 mins didn't see scope but that seems to be the answer, Thanks for putting on the right trail
