hello all just saying hello stumbled upon this website and really like it so here i am to glean all your knowledge possible! REally a novice on most topics of "organized" photography. Have done alot of P&S lol (and some POS) recently bought a Nikon 7000 and am headed to Vegas to attempt some neon light pics so im open to any suggestions thanks and hope to chat with you all

Welcome!!! can't help with neon lights, haven't gotten that far myself. There are some excellent photographers here so be patient, you will get some help.

Evening shots and night shots are nice. I have a composit NYC that could help. You need to stop down to about -2 on the f-stop. Just try it and see what happens.
thanks for the info. at this point im pretty much in auto mode so i have been playing with settings and hopefully will have some sample to post for the amusement of all....lol

I have been to Vegas a couple of times. I turned off my flash, hand held real steady, and set on Auto to get these pictures. I have a Sony A200, and used the kit lens 18-70 on auto focus.

By the way, forgot to tell you welcome to UHH. Lots of good advice here. I have a notebook that I keep next to the computer to write down all the "nuggets" that I am getting. Please post some of your photos when you are comfortable doing so.

will do i had a computer crash a while back and learned the important lesson of back up on an external drive! ill get some on here and will deffinatly post some of the vegas stuff when i get back. I lived in goldsboro for about ten years when i was in the air force.
Great night shots. I am amazed that you could get the exposure "right on" using automatic. I almost alwas have to adjust manually to get that great color. Welcome to the HOG.

Thanks about the steadyness.....but having a bit of tunnel-vision at times, was using the rough concrete "railing" around the pool to help steady my shots. Can we finish the sentence "If I use my elbow as a pivot point on a rough surface it will _______________. Again welcome to UHH, and thank you for your service.
