Thanks so much, Rlaugh! I used tripod and shutter release with second and third shots but not with first.

Your method sounds very good to me, Baz. There are so many options. It all depends on what you want your result to be. The only reason I was standing so far away from the passion flower was because the lens I had on the camera (Canon 100-400) won't focus closer. :-D

Donna quote "I was standing as close as the lens would allow, and I think that's about 6 ft or so away from the flower." Unquote.

My Lumix FZ48 with a 25 - 200mm lens has the following focus options,
Auto focus
Auto Macro
Manual Macro

When I do close-ups I use Manual Macro as I can get to within about an inch (or less) of the subject. I generally use F2.8 - 5.6 depending upon the light, 5.6 obviously giving me a better / more D of F.

Thanks so much, PinkyCat! Go back to page 3 and look about half way down the page to the answer I gave John. If you'd like for me to elaborate on any of my ramblings to him or if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Exquisite, Donna! Each and every one of them. Would you be good enough to explain "Mirror Lockup" to me? I've never heard of it and would like to know more...

Thanks so much, Howlynn, and I'm glad you told me about the camera timing out. I had no idea. The first time I tried MLU I almost panicked because I thought I'd left the shutter open too long and harmed the camera. :-D

All three great photos, I try to use a remote release with MUP. Also when you push the shutter the first time locking the mirror-up, if you don't push it the second time the camera will time-out and take the picture, then you're not pushing the shutter to take the shot.

Thanks so much, Ron! I was amazed at the difference it made in closeups and macro. I've also read that it will make shots of the moon sharper, but I haven't tried it.

WOW Donna what a great set of pictures, loved no 2 then thought no, no 3, then back to no 2. I now think no 3 as he shadows are great and I love the angle at which you have taken it. Mind on saying that they are all great....

Thank you so much, Val! I'm amazed at how the mirror lockup feature made such a difference in sharpness. I can't wait to try it out on dragonflies next spring. :-)
