I have been playing with the 60 and having trouble with the telephoto, however have been ill so a little shaky. I took the following picture from the car window. This tree is a long way away, like across the highway and river. Focal length set on the 1.5 setting, measuring 2357 mm based on 35 mm measurements. using AV with ISO set at 800. This picture is straight out of the camera and the best I have gotten with the few I have taken. The sun was out for a short while.

Thanks Linda, wish we could have seen the eagles earlier when the sun was out. Guess they will move to the nest area before too long.

I've heard there may be an Image Stabilization problem with the SX60. You might want to use a tripod on some of you longer shots and see what you get. My SX60 will be here tomorrow (fingers crossed) and I'll be using a tripod straight away to check sharpness of the longer shots.

Thanks Pilot, I did have trouble at first using the 2x setting and trying to stand in the wind, but now not able to get out of the car much I am using the 1.6 setting and leaning on the car door. Anyway I was pleased with the nest shots as it is so far away or anyway the best I can see. Still haven't printed 13x19, hate to waste paper and ink, but will do that today and see if I am still pleased. I know you will like the 60, have fun and waiting for your pictures.
