Concave diffusers on MT-24EX twin speedlights? Show to me.

I have built concave diffusers for the MT-24EX heads. Individual sleeves that slip over the heads with DIY concave Fresnel lenses inside the sleeve and capped with paper towels. I can get you a picture if you like. Problem with these is the surface area is so small that the diffusers still put out a concentrated flash pulse. Recently, I built a triangular hardbox (very easy to make a concave one) that uses the MT-24EX. On flash on each side, which is nice because you can control power on left and right side. It also has the added benefit of much less weight on the bracket arm. Camera is more balanced with the weight of the flash electronics and batteries sitting on the hotshot.

Exactly!
Reflections in spiders' eyes are of a wide, diffused, encompassing illumination source, such as a light tent.

Yes, I think so, most likely a light tent curved over the end of the lens with twin flash. A popular method with MP-E 65 / MT24EX shooters. You can see how he positions the tent at different angles to the spider in the various pictures and that he shoots some of the shots with the flash heads at different angles and at different output levels - A & B. I have seen similar results with my twin flash hard box.
