Hi hope some one can help me.
I have a Hewlett Packard Envy laptop. It has a touch screen. I never have had problems with it. But Friday it decided to stop working. I did some of the suggestions from the help and nothing works. Can some one give me some other suggestions. It has to be easy suggestions. Computers and I do not get along!
Thank you, Mary
Are you certain you didn't disable the touch functionality by accident? I've done that before.

If I did I have no clue how I did it. I checked and the computer says it does not see a problem. That the touch screen is working right. Well I know it is not.
But thank you for your comment!!

Your computer self diagnostic is only telling you that the hardware and software are both fine.....however it is not telling you what your "Settings" are !
Now do like preachy suggests and check your settings ......and pay attention will you Mary ! 8-)

I have checked my settings. I was just hoping that I was missing something.

If it has a detachable screen make sure there isn't dirt or hair in the contacts!

No it is not detachable, but thank you for your thoughts.

Try resetting the PC to a backup point it made before this problem occurred?!

Yeah that is what my husband suggested, I guess I will have to give that a try. Thanks again. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I don't know anything about touch screens, but in the older style laptops if you unplug from AC and remove battery then hook back up they sometimes will restore themselves. Good luck.

Also make sure you make a RECOVERY DISK of your original system just in case there's a problem in the future. Just having a RESTORE point will not work if the HDD goes south. Cloning your system HDD to an external drive is another possibility.
If your computer is running WINDOWS 7, 8 or 8.1, you should probably buy WINDOWS for DUMMIES or some other system manual that fully instructs you about your OS.
Most computer manufacturers have a website that has downloadable files to update and reset all the factory settings and includes the latest drivers and BIOS. Also update your OS from the MS UPDATE and many times it takes numerous reboots to completely install. Don't be surprised when you get long waits as things are downloaded and installed on your HDD.
This problem is probably related to either system settings in CONTROL PANEL or loss of a driver. Updating drivers and resetting to factory system settings should restore your touch screen unless there's a hardware complication in your laptop.
All of the touch screen features can be accomplished using a WIFI touchpad or mouse and if those work, then it's the settings that got screwed up in CONTROL PANEL. RESTORE or RECOVERY will put you back in business most of the time.

Since you are not "good" with computer issues:
1) Follow someones instructions for checking settings (as suggested).
2) Get a mouse and use that for now.
3) Take the LapTop to a store or repair center.
4) Ask a kid or teenager how to use it in person. (I'm 60 but good with computers, though do not have a newer or touch screen PC. My HP is from 2009).

I don't like touch screens. My son's Sony camcorder had a touch screen, and it stopped working. He eventually had to get a new camcorder.
Is touch screen essential, or can you use a mouse?

That has saved me many many times. Try it.
