I am a new subscriber and am looking forward to participating in the forum. I consider myself a recreational photographer and am willing to learn from those more experienced.
I have owned an E500 for 10 years and still cannot get good photos inside cathedrals, castles, etc. I have tried the "scene" setting as well as manual settings. Even Photoshop can't help many of my photos. Is there a workable solution to this issue?

Welcome to the forum :)
Please post some photos (with the EXIF data) so they can be reviewed - be sure to check "store original" - Do Not Preview after you have attached a photo - it will remove it and you will have to add it again...
Are the photos:
Blurry?
Too dark?
Color not correct?
Noisy?
