This 1950-51 GMC is not retired. It is driven every day by an elderly man in Leadville, CO who got it from his father. All the paint is gone, but it runs fine.

Cool old truck, My dad had a 51 chevy when I was in school, I blew the engine, so I had to give him the engine from one of my field cars. We put in a flat head V-8 from an old ford. We changed the name of the truck to a Fhevy. He drove it for a couple more years after that and sold it.
I was in Leadville in 1989 for Outward Bound trip.

Good story about Pop and Fhevy. They were good trucks. Didn't you just love Leadville. There are some wonderful legends there from the old mining days.

Rick and Ma, since you have the interest, here's a photo of the truck and owner. He's a retired miner and was going to give his GMC to his nephew. Then the boy told him he was going to make a big wheel out of it, so the old guy said, "Nope--not this truck." Good for him. At the time, I was capturing the owned, so I cropped the truck a bit too much in the viewfinder. Little did I know I would be on UHH one day.

Did really see much off leadville itself, it was the starting point of a 25 day hike in the area there with Outward Bound

Glad you reminded me of the importance of including him. He was such a nice man and ever so humble. He's still waiting (sigh) for the mines to open again.

Can't tell you his specific job, but I think he was a common laborer. After the silver and gold came the mining of Molybdenum, a product used to strengthen steel. Currently it is not being mined anymore, but this fellow declares that a mine will soon be opening and he wants to go back to work.

I like the old rust but it is kind of like shooting old buildings there is not a lot of either one around. Nice Pictures and I hope you had a hot cup of coffee when you got home.
