Why is no longer an iPod Classic? The parts are not available.

Guess one of my iPods are going to bite the dust, it's old and I don't use it anymore so won't miss it. Compared to the newer ones, my classic is really heavy! :D

I got my first iPod in 2005, and it still works. I've gotten several more since then. One thing I never liked about the iPod is the fact that you can't completely power it down. I have to keep charging them as the batteries run down. They look like they're turned off, but touching the center wheel brings them back to life. Sometimes, simplicity can go too far.

The iPod Touch, on the other hand, can actually be turned off, like an iPhone.

I prefer iPods for music since I'm not using a phone and its memory capacity.

My original, from 2005, stopped working, so I did a "Reset" through iTunes, and that brought it back to life.

I think I have "Nanos" now and use bluetooth speakers with them. They're so light and tiny, it's easy to misplace them. I have a "Touch" too though I seldom use it. I think you can actually take pictures with it, don't quote me on that, I may be wrong, haven't played with it lately.

I have the Nanos and also the smaller Shuffles. The iPods are good for a couple of radios that have attachment points for them, and my car has a connection for an iPod.

My Hondas did too! I sold my last one to my niece.

Did you ever wonder - and I may be going out on a limb on this - when electricians are going to install plugs (in the wall) with USB ports? I buy plugs with USB ports on them and insert that into a wall plug. Maybe electricians are doing that now.

You need USB plugs for everything.

Yep! But when USB becomes obsolete, so will these outlets.

You're right, I looked at the link and didn't see the power strip I have, it's regular plugs and two USB ports. Nothing changes but the changes... :)

To shut an ipod classic down completely you need to press and hold the bottom of the wheel about 5 seconds. Then slide the lock on the top so you see orange and it is locked and can't be turned on.

The NEC code forbids power circuits to run together with other circuits. Cable, telephone, computer and other non-power circuits must be routed through separate paths and junction points.

Thank you Rayford, I didn't know that.

That lock on the top is the tip-off. Why is it necessary? Because if you just touch the wheel, the iPod wakes up. It never shuts down completely. I have to keep charging mine every month or so, and they will sometimes have the battery indicator down into the red - just sitting in a drawer. I have found this to be true with at least half a dozen iPods.

The USB power is just taken from the outlet itself.
