Putting Lightroom 4 onto a Different Computer

I have LR4 on my older computer, and I'd like to put it on my son's computer. I think I'm allowed two installations, but what do I have to do if I want to remove it from my old computer before installing it on his? Do I have to notify Adobe? I could just try it and see what happens, but I'd rather avoid complications with Adobe.

I think you have to de-activate it. Look under the "file" tab.

I've not tested it, but read on the Lightroom forum that it does not "register" like other products. In other words, you are "on your honor" to not install it on more than two computers.

I think the license says you can put it on two computers like your office computer and your laptop, but you will use one at a time. I don't think it says you can put it on your computer and someone elses. It is probably a technical violation to even put one copy on yours and the second copy on a spouse's computer.

Since it's your son, give him LR5 instead of the Polaroid Cube. There are several worthwhile improvements.

Go to the Adobe web site and open your adobe account. It will have listed your products and should allow you to de activate the program on your old computer and re register it on your new(son's) computer.

I've not tested it, but read on the Lightroom foru... (show quote)

Since I bought the computer that he's using - Christmas present from a few years ago - technically, I could say it's mine (not that it matters much). I'll let him try LR4. If he uses it and likes it, I might give him LR5, but I want to keep my options open for installing it on another computer.

As for the Cube, I ordered the SJ4000 instead. It was just a bit more than half the price. I'll let you know how it works when I get it - end of November.

Thanks. Activation/deactivation is not required for Lightroom.
