I just got a new computer. I can't find my disc for Elements 10......My question is should I look for it or just buy 13? I wonder if there is much difference?

I appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I believe PSE 10 was 32 bit, where PSE 12 and up are available asa 64 bit apps, so they would process memory intensive functions much faster.

64 Bit also means that it will see more memory to work with.

I often ran out of memory with PSE 10 when doing panorama merges, but with PSE 12 (64 bit) I have access to all of my computers memory instead of only 4 GB.

Of course that only works if you are running a 64 bit OS as well.

For me seeing PSE 12 went to 64 bit was all I needed to know to upgrade.

I am sure there are additional feature upgrades, but I switched from PSE to Photoshop CC 2014 & Lightroom for my editing.

My version 10 has a corrupt disc and didn't work properly. It cost almost as much as version 12 to get it repaired. I bought version 12 and it is great. Version 13 is a little better but not that much different. Go ahead with the 13, you wont be sorry.

Are you running Windows 8?
I am (Actually 8.10). And I'm running Elements 12. I haven't seen any reason to "Upgrade" to Elements 13.
So if you are running Windows 8, then the upgrade may be of benefit to you.
If you are running Windows 7, maybe not.

Make sense?
:-D

Then I would suggest stepping up to Elements 13, and make sure you install the 64 bit version.
That way you'll be learning with the latest software, and with compatibility to get the most out of the program with respect to the 64 bit operating system.

I run Windows 8.10. But I use the Desktop Window as my home screen.
I'm more inclined to it and being able to customize it over the candy and bubble gum, copycat Apple, App screen that is default for Windoze 8.
I'm old school PC. Once I "tuned" Windows 8 to my likes, it works great.

I like my Elements 12 version. I do not do much PP to my shots, often none at all. But it's a nice way to get some automatic Brightness and Contrast adjustments, and play around with your photographs.
Anything I do modify from the original I "Save As" and add something like a 1 to the original file name. That way it gets stuck right next to the original.

Since Elements 13 is very new, I would also suggest you keep it updated.
I have those options on for my computer. It informs me and I almost always choose to let it run the updates for any programs I use a lot.
Keeps things ticking right along. ;)
Just be mindful of any Anti-virus that might be tagging along with any updates. Two different AV programs can conflict, then that drives you bonkers trying to figure it out.

I'd say you are good to go with Elements 13.
Enjoy! ;)

You could download the program from Adobe instead of turning your house upside down for the disk.
The problem would be the registration key so you can use the program. When you installed version 10, you would have registered with Adobe, and I'm fairly sure if you give them a call they will be able to accommodate you with the registration key for version 10.

Or you could look at stores like Best Buy or Costco - with a bit of luck their sales will have started or will soon, and you might be able to buy version 13 (with a new registration key) for around $50 - if the stores are sticking to the tradition of the last several years. These last weeks before Christmas and around Black Friday seems to be the period they sell PSE for this low a price.

You will love the color of the new work area. I assume that PSE 12 & 13 are the same light blue-gray as my PSE 11. And the tool layout is nicer. (easy to see) Boone

First check your system requirements, hard drive space, memory.
If you enough of each, and your doing video the new Elements Premiue, would be your choice. I have just bought.

Thanks Boone and Mmatu!

I just chatted with Adobe...very unhelpful because they said I had no proof that I purchased the software. So frustrating...If I pirated the software would I really ask them for help!I realize I should have kept the packaging!
I just found the invoice on my email. I will install 10 and hope to get 13 on sale closer to Christmas.

12 provided a huge upgrade in the user interface. Unless you are super proficient with 10 buying the new version is well worth it for that alone. I suspect the difference between 13 and 12 is modest but you might get some good stuff that works for you.

They increased the price a bit on 13 so it might be $60 instead of $50 when Costco and others put it on sale.

Alternatively now might be the time to take up Adobe on the $10 per month for both Lightroom and Photoshop.
