I have some time this morning and think it's time to introduce myself. This site has excededed all expectations and I am so glad I joined 2 1/2 months ago. I visit the site religiously and learn daily. Thanks to all of you for a wonderful forum.
I live in Riverton, Wyoming, a farming and ranching town of about 10,000. We have the Wind Rivers to the west and the Owl Creeks and Wind River Canyon, an amazing geological formation, to the east. The Tetons and Yellowstone are 150 miles to the NW.
I am of Cherokee heritage, hence the chosen user name. I work as a veterinary asistant in a large and small animal practice. I am mostly involved with surgeries.
My husband purchased the Sony DSC-H1. The local community college offered a digital class at night 2 years ago, and I decided to see if I had the desire and aptitude. Now it has become a passion. I had no idea what a DSLR even was. I have since upgraded to the Sony A330, the idea being to walk before running. My subjects of choice are pet portraits, livestock and landscapes. I would love to do wildllife, but don't have the time or equipment. Being somewhat computer challenged, I will try to post.
Let Them Eat Cake, Alfalfa That is.

Welcome to UHH. Great pic's.
Welcome to the forum. You sure are a long way from home. My grandparents were Cherokee Indians, but somewhere along the line the Viking blond got into my gene line and I am as blond as can be...with just one brain cell even. It's very difficult to convince anyone I am of Indian heritage unless I show them old photos of my grandparents.
Hope you have a good time here and learn something new every day.
Thank you All so very much for your kind welcome! Deep down I knew I didn't need to feel self-conscious about posting, but did anyway. I do feel accepted and have a number of photos I would like to post.

Thank you for your welcome and information about yourself!
I am very proud of my Cherokee heritage! My great-great grandmother was forced from her plantation in southern Mississippi and traveled to Macalester, Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. My grandfather found a job in the coal mnes in Reliance, Wyoming (Rock Springs area on I80). My grandfather was German. The family has been in this area since then. Riverton is surrounded by the Shoshone and Arapaho reservation and it is sad to see the lack of pride in their culture. The old ways are dying out and being replaced by laziness, alcohol and drugs. I have not seen this with the Cherokee's and the southern tribes.
Show some photos of your heritage ...pow-wows etc.
Welcome. I lived in Riverton when I started elementary school (prehistoric times) population was 5,000. We moved to Cheyenne and they discovered uranium around Riverton and the population doubled. Only doctor was in Lander at that time. Hope things have improved greatly in the past 50 years.

Alcohol was a big problem for the reservations in the 1950's. Sorry to hear it hasn't improved.
