Anyone have any experience with the Microsoft Office $6.99/month deal? Their website will only let me order it for a year....Even though I checked the 6.99 box. OK $69.99/ year no problem. but am I missing something? I worry about being on a bogus website, paranoid..I know.

I haven't heard about any MS Office deal -- can you tell us the address you are using for this deal?

Did you go here? If you did it looks OK to me:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Office-365-Personal/productID.297833200

2 options yearly or monthly

You are talking about MS Office 365?

Looks like you have a choice to me of buying a years worth of access for 69.99, or paying monthly, depending on which one you click..... 6.99 * 12 = 83.88, or pay up front and get a discount.

I will stick with LibreOffice for free....

It is valid Office 365 for $6.99/month or $69.99 for 12 months. This can only be used by 1 computer, If you purchase the Office Home you get 5 computer licenses for $9.99/month or $99.99/year. If you go here you can order directly from Microsoft's website:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/cat/Office/categoryID.62684700

Make sure you order for the right type license for your computer because it is also available for Apple computers.

This offer is legitimate. It is also offered on Amazon. It is good for one year on one computer.

Thanks all for the quick replies. I currently have a free program and it is terrible (Open Office). You get what you pay for. I will follow the suggested link.

Why not buy the stand alone and be done with it? You can buy the Stand-alone with or without Outlook.

I would rather have it on my (personal) computer then work from the cloud.

Office Home & Student $219.00 w/Outlook

Thanks for the reply. Found out how to order the $6.99/month-and downloaded it. At first glance it looks far better than what I was using. Have no problem with using the cloud for this..

Is it downloaded to your computer, or do you access it with your web browser? Like Google Docs?

Probably to suck you in then raise the price, why not...they see others doing it.

I can not see paying monthly for something that can be mine for a one time price as long as they don't change the operating system so that it can not run later. The new Office Products do not run on Windows XP and I don't like the Windows 8.1 look in Office.

BTW, I still use Lotus Products - Word Pro, Lotus 123 and Lotus Approach.

I am a strong advocate of NOT leasing software. Companies like Adobe and Microsoft make egregious profits from attempts to dominate the market. When you "rent" your software, you are paying for it, whether or not you need the upgrades. And if you do not pay, your software is rendered useless.

I object strongly because you will pay more in the long run than if you simply pay for a version and use it as long as you like, or until some "gotta have it" feature is added. These products are mature. There are few, if any, new features added to previous versions, and what is changed is often a subtle attempt toward obsolescence with 3rd party add-ons. Since the updates are fewer and farther between, and because nothing is really new, these big software giants are having trouble convincing users to upgrade, so they are finding ways to force you to keep paying and paying and paying.

I've used Open Office for many years and find it totally compatible with Microsoft formats, stable, fast, and they don't do stupid things like changing menu structures to make you believe there is something new. It also has some features missing in Office.

Count the number of programs on your computer that you wouldn't really want to be without, and then look at what it would cost you every month if each and every one of them charged you just a couple of dollars a month. There is no way I will support industry attempts to start down that slippery slope, especially since I'm on a fixed income.

If you are buying this from the MS website, then it's valid. There are 2 methods to buy this MS Office 365 program but I prefer to have the disk version of MS Office 2013 which is also still available.

It appears that Microsoft is trying to get away from disk program sales and going toward software downloads instead. It's cheaper for them but make sure you record your license # somewhere safe in case you need to restore your system in the future.

On Kim Komando's site, she said you can download Open Office for free and there are no monthly charges. Its almost like using M.S. Office.
Open Office has the following: text document, spread sheet, presentation, drawing, database, formula and templates. I have used it and it is easy and free.
Wonder if anyone else on UHH has used the program.
