Thought this might make for an interesting discussion... What's your favorite walking around lens, the one that usually lives on your camera and why?
For myself, I like the Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 VR on a D7000, i'd like it to be faster... but it seems to be the one I carry walking around town or in the woods. It does become a bit heavy after a while. And, the VR is a plus. Sometimes I forget that the polarizer also lives on the lens and I see perfect reflections in the viewfinder, but...

+1 on your choice of lens & camera.
D-90 w/18-200mm.

For me, it's Canon 17-55 F/2.8. They really should call it an L lens, but I guess Canon can't/won't do it because it's EF-S and only fits the crop sensor bodies. (That, and it's not weather sealed and doesn't come with the hood. But image quality is awesome.)
I find that 17-55 is a good enough range for a crop. At least, as a walk around lens.

Although I have several "L" lenses for my Canons, I find that my Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di is a great walk-around lens. It's light, has great range, and is tack sharp. Attached is a grab shot I took with it that illustrates its quality.
mine is the Canon 24-70mm. 2.8..
my favorite is a canon 24-70 because it a small wide angle and a short telephoto very handy and not to long and heavy a perfect balance .

The best Canon all-round tourist lens is the 28-300 F3.5-5.6 IS. Its zoom varies from almost wide angle to super telephoto and handles nearly every shooting task very well. Its only drawback is that it is heavy, but owners of SLR have to live with that.
Another vote for the Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 VR lens.

The image is a nice example of what the lens can do. I can see why one would carry it around. Reaching out to 300mm is certainly an asset.
MY "BIG BOY" PENTAX K10D SPORTS A PENTAX 18-250 , AND IT REALLY DOES A JOB FOR ME. (THE ONLY LENS I OWN FOR IT, SO NO CHANCE OF DUST, ETC. WHEN CHANGING), IN ADDITION, MY NIKON P-60 LIVES IN MY POCKET.
BOTH HAVE PRODUCED EXCELLENT RESULTS.
