Moving up from D7000 and almost ready to break for a D750 but need a walkaround lens for it. Considering the 24-120 F4 VR offerered as part of package or a used or refurbished 24-85 VR going along with purchase of a bare body. Not open to 28-300 as I'd prefer to use my 70-300mm VR for long tele shots. Cost is much less of a consideration than IQ or weight.

24-120 seems like the most versatile n light weight option. Too bad there wasn't a 50-150 f4. How about 70-200f4 ? Versatile, light and great iq

24-120 LIGHT? I have this lens and it is anything but LIGHT. As I side note: I love this lens it is nice and sharp but it is not LIGHT.

Sorry isobob thought it was a light lens. I carry around a 3.5# lens all the time must be getting used to it.

No problem at all. I just wanted the poster to know that this is a terrific lens but is not light!

The 24-120mm F4 VR is a very fine lens, mine is almost never off my Df body.

As for weight, yes the 24-120 is 25 ounces compared to the 24-85mm's 16 ounces, but light is a relative term. To a DX shooter both might be considered heavier than average. To an FX shooter they are both featherweights. The 24-85 has a price advantage of about 50%, but the 24-120 is a deal in the kit package. D750 and 24-120mm lens will be right at 3 pounds together.

Some excellent recommendations here, you might also look at the New Sigma Art lens 24-105mm, around 900.00 and very sharp. I use it on a Df.

if for no other reason i believe a $600.00 savings if bought with d750, if all things being equal appears to be good deal

This post is making me want to move from my d7000 to the 750. Alot of good suggestions for lenses. Bet the 70-200 f4 I suggested would be a great match for this body. Just getting me pumped ,see how you guys are. Think I getting GAS, is there any relief for it. Will pepto-gizmo work?

No doubt a 70-200 would be a fine lens on this body but for most travel you would miss a lot of great shots. On my trips through city and countryside the overwhelming majority of shots are at wide and standard focal lengths.

Yes, the 70-200mm f/4 would work great with the D750, but that would not be a "walkaround" for most people, with no wide-angle option.

Another great lesn is a AF-S 24-85mm G ED VR. I have both the old D version of this lens that does weigh a ton and the new version that is much lighter. it is a DX and FX lens so you can use it just about on any camera.

Obviously, there will be different opinions on this since we are all different and have different priorities.
If I was buying a full frame camera a 24-120 f4 VR lens would be ideal for the photography I do.
I like it over the 24-85 because if has a longer range which is more appropriate for what I usually do photographically. I am sure you will also be OK with it.

I have both the older version AF 24-120mm D which weighs a ton and the newer AF-S 24-120mm VR which is much lighter do to the fact that Nikon makes all their new lens with Plastic and some are so cheap that you best not pick your camera up by the lens or you could just be holding the lens barrel and the camera is on the ground. But both work very well for me as I have one on a D300 and the other on a D300s

Right. I find the wide end to be much more important than the tele end. But that's just me.
