LR 5 Not Recognizing 8 GIG card or new Sony 830 on Import

Tried using card reader for Sony SDHC 8G card for import to Hard Drive Destination. No recognition Then hooked P&S camera up direct to MacPro to import to LR with no recognition of camera or Sony card. Am sure it must be "operator error", but this has never happened before. What am I overlooking? Thanks.

Did you say the Sony P&S is a new model? Adobe may not have released an update to ACR to cover it yet. If it has been out for a while, have you updated Lightroom to it's latest version?
