Are you using Dropbox to back-up your photos?

If so, then please check to make sure they are still there.
This is especially important if you have not regularly updated your Dropbox and don't have the newest version installed.
The message I just received reads like this:
"There is both good news and bad news. If you have regularly updated the Dropbox software every time the message appeared stating that a new version is available, you should have no problems. The problem exists only in older versions of the Dropbox software. In more good news, Dropbox says that it’s restoring files where it can and is updating the bug.
However, there is bad news for some Dropbox users: the company says it can’t restore all the lost files. The problem seems to have affected only those users who turned on Selective Sync, which limits cloud syncs to specified folders.
Affected Dropbox customers are receiving email messages apologizing for the problem and offering a free one year extension to existing Dropbox Pro accounts."

I have only ever used Dropbox for sharing files, and when I checked a minute or so ago, all my files still seem to be there.

I use Dropbox to share stuff, but as a computer guy, I have my photos backed up to external hard drives and Carbonite. Multiple copies of all images and important files on varying types of media. Amazon also has a backup service for large amounts of infrequently accessed info that is very reasonable called Glacier that fellow Hogs may want to check out. Sorry, given Dropbox's recent password breach and the fact it wasn't really designed to be a cloud backup service, I wouldn't keep anything there that's not backed up elsewhere. I get around this in my own business by having Carbonite backup the Dropbox.

Sharing, not backing up.

I sent stills/videos of a museum project to interested parties
on dropbox. it works really well when you need to share a larger file. Mac had iDisk which many of us miss that did the same task. One issue is when you put photo's in a folder into dropbox they are gone from you desktop on a Mac. I make a copy and put that in dropbox. I also back up to 2 drives original material that is valuable. And have a G Drive to put must keep original photo's and video. Recently dropbox just gave me a TB of storage as a gift. I have created a biz where I will need to receive 10 photos from clients. Using dropbox because I trust their reliability. This might be too much information but I
hope it is helpful.
