All,

I'm kind of new to this. My title is an acrynm for Qaulity Asurance Specialist Ammunition Surveillance. I'm a Army Civillian and specialize in working with Ammo. Enough about me. I've been playing with photography for several years now and just recently upgraded fron a Canon XTI to a 7D. I feel a little over whelmed with the 7D. Does anyone know where I can go on line and get some training and the features and how to use this camera. Sorry I'm not much of a types. More like a two fingered pecker.

There are tons of YouTube videos if you are not a book sort of learner. I can learn most anything from a book. I started with the manual and camera in hands and then went from there. I have a 7d and it can be intimidating at first. After awhile it becomes like a comfortable pair of shoes, easy to wear and use.

Right now I feel like I did when I went from a point and shoot to mi Rebel XTI (Great Camera). I'm a little old fashion and would like the book better I think for reffrencing purposes. I'm hoping to take some classes either at the local photo store or on line. I'm not looking for a degree or to make this my occupation. I just want to learn more about my hobby and if I can help people out in this economy then that would be great.

Welcome!! sorry can't help with your camera, felt the same way when I got my D90. Very overwhelmed, some classes at the tech school, internet, books, and the very best was finding this forum, getting very comfortable with it now.

What you need is not a class on your specific camera. Do you have a local college of any kind? What you need it to learn what various settings on the camera mean and what you can do with them. Learn this and you can use any camera. The buttons, dials, settings will be in different places with different cameras, but they will function the same way. In the meantime you might get Bryan Peterson Understanding Exposure at amazon.com or do a search for bryan peterson understanding exposure pdf - There are a number of sites where you can download it for free. We got it here: http://www.4shared.com/office/dWLxToKN/Bryan_Peterson_-_Understanding.html - the book is a more recent version but the pdf file has taught me a lot.

Welcome to the forum. Having gone through the same "feature shock" with my Nikon (D200) - I found that reading about a feature in the manual, maybe doing some online research and then going out and trying that feature with multiple settings and situations is a good way to learn the different features. It takes time, but can be lots of fun too!

Of course, everyone learns differently - I'd check where you picked up the camera and ask if they provide training courses.

I agree. Learn what it is to control a DSLR and you will be further ahead.

Learn what the exposure triangle is and by all means DO get Bryan's book...that is a must!

PS: it WOULD be nice to actually buy it instead of stealing it in PDF form...that would seem to be a no brainer. Just because we are able to digitally steal easily, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Give Bryan 20.00 and help him keep authoring books that help us photogs. :)

Welcome Aboard !! I retired from the Marine Corps as a CWO-2 and a Weapons Repair Officer. In civilian life I was a gunsmith for BrowninG for 38 years and have at least 50 years of competitive shooting both rifle and pistol. If that's not enough I've been doing photography for at least 60 years. I've got good enough that I get one in focus every now and then. If I can help with anything PLEASE let me know, Vearl

If you started with a P&S and than went to a XTI you pretty well have the basics down. But your scratching your head while you look at your new 7D. We have quite a few really good people here that shoot with a 7D. Read the manual over a couple of two or three times till your good and confused. Than google 'books on the 7D' and see what happens. Next make a thread on 'general photography' topic here on this forum and ask the magic question, Can anyone help me understand my 7D? Than just stand back and have a pencil and paper handy.
Oh and by the way ... Welcome to Hedge Hog
