What ISO did you use for the second shot? . . . were they shot free hand or off a tripod with a gimbal head??
The Iso was 1000 but the shot was shot 1/3200, I did not have time to make adjustments. These were shot hand-held. Thanks for the advice RRS all suggestions and advice welcome!

I can honestly say, as a BIF shooter for about a week, that your shots pale mine by comparison! Way to go!

Hand-held WOW! I know that a lot of shooters will disagree with me but I try and do about 95% of my BIF on a tripod with a gimbal head, however some of my best shots were "grab-shots" hand-held. There are a lot that shoot most of their shots free-hand so due what you are comfortable with, your hand-held looks great!

I have never used a Tripod for birds because I don't have a gimbal head. My tripod was bought for night shots and landscapes before I had any interest in birds. If I had a proper Tripod setup I am sure I would use it.

Canon 5d mark2 400mm 5.6L lens. As much as I love this camera it is not meant for sports or B.I.F. so I don't get as many keepers as I would like.

Hi, Reddog,
Two well-captured B.I.F,s! Good job!

However, the second bird, identified as a peregrine, looks very much like a captive-bred peregrine X lanner hybrid or possibly a juvenile lander falcon. Since it is a trained bird flown in falconry ( note the end of the leather jess just above the base of the tail on its right side ) you should be able to check with the licensed falconer / owner about its parentage.

In general, it is considered appropriate (in fact, , honestly essential...) to identify animals that are photographed under captive or controlled, trained circumstances to differentiate them from the excellent images you have made of free-living wild individuals.

Keep up the good work.

Best regards,
Dave
