I can see what I did wrong, branches out of his head. But how do you think I could have done better or different. This is my 17 yr old grandson and a willing participant.

#1 - it's really tilted and you've croppped off his finger tipsyou have some sun dappling happening. Focus also seems to have missed his eyes and fell on his shirt graphic.
#2 - is titled again, focus is soft again (I do like my eyes tack sharp).
#3 - I like this one, it shows his personality. You cropped him at the knee.
As a whole I would use portrait orientation more, you'll get more of your subject in the photo (turn the camera), move your subject off center and work on your focal points. They are great starts and your lucky to have a willing model.
Don't forget to check out our people section here on the forum, so your post doesn't get lost as quickly.

Having him in the shade was a good start. Try using a reflector to lighten up the shadows and draw attention to his face. Then you might try a larger aperture to throw the background out of focus.
Thank you I didn't realize there was a people forum:) I will try your suggestions and post again in the future.
Your grandson probably knows where there is a half pipe park. That makes a great bg with the gray making the colors pop.
You are on the right track with two and three.......one , the lighting on the face is too harsh.I would not use the tilt technique for these shots,it just doesn't work, but an easy fix
