I am trying to get the sun shade off tis lens. I just bought it used. Tried to 1/4 turn like the others and didn't work.

Mine has a metal screw-on hood, just like a filter. But its an older model of the AF 80-200 F2.8 D ED IF, is that what you have?
When I try to turn it it move the focus. So I quit trying.
Has me stumped.
Trying to fin a on line manual or hard copy.

Why not post a picture here, it would help your issue a lot.
I took some pictures yesterday and late last night I looked at it and Low and behold it wiggled and I unthreaded it.

Use a plain lead pencil (graphite) and scratch some lead around the threads, wipe off the excess and it will act as a lubricant to help keep the hood from sticking as bad in the future.. Glad it came off OK.
This is why I read all these posts, I never thought about using pencil lead on threads, I have a couple of adapter rings that always stick and this sounds like the solution to my problem. Thanks alot.
