Question

I was browsing in a local pawnshop the other day and stumbled across an old analog Nikon EM from the '80s with a 50mm and a 105mm lens for $15.
I grabbed them up mostly as a collectable and took them home. The battery had been left in and the area had corrosion on the contacts but that seems to be the only visible defect.
Is there any one or any place I can send this camera to to have it checked out?
Thanks in advance

There are a number of good repair shops around the country. National Camera Repair (I think in Denver, CO) is one. You might try cleaning the contacts with a paste of baking soda & water. Keep it as dry as possible and clean it out with compressed air & Q-tips. You may not need to send out for service.

What part of NC are you in? I grew up in Winston-Salem.

Thanks for the info.
I live in Rockingham County (The cultural hub of the Piedmont. No culture there but it's all around us)

Never mind the camera, it's worthless.

Tell us about those two lenses!

A few years ago I picked up a Lester A. Dine branded Kiron 105mm f2.8 macro lens that had a Nikon N2020 attached as the rear lens cap. Great deal.

It came with a Nikon 50mm 1.8 and a Vivitar 80 - 200mm 1:4
Sorry about the misinformation earlier (I was still waiting for my coffee)

Oh well... not exactly lenses to get excited about... :-)

Just as a bit of advice, whenever one is looking at a used camera, always check the battery compartment, assuming it has one, before the purchase. Your experience is the reason for that.

The lenses may be the best part of that purchase.

It would be cheaper to get a good used EM from a reliable dealer like keh.com than to fix this one. Consider it a collectible. You can try cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser.

Thanks for all the info. FYI I did clean out the battery compartment myself and Lo and behold, the camera does work. So, for the price of two additional batteries, I'm back into my first love, film photography. Probably not a deal but a new tangent to my hobby for less than a total of twenty dollars isn't bad
