Don't take everything as personal... saying "your Al Sharpton" does not mean your own personal Al Sharpton but people of his type.
As to the small type in the article, such ideology exist like in such places as Ferguson and other towns. The policeman's story was to counter such ideology. To me, that was what the story was about. The writer was not conveying his personal views but the views of others and then writting the Officers reply to those views. Check the Link below.
