Hi everyone. Noticed my D600 has a lot of oil spots again just about 5 months after Nikon repaired it. I wet cleaned the sensor last night, and I think I got it all. Had to clean it twice to get all the spots that I could see. Shooting at a white paper, I do not see anything now. My questions is: is this normal or should I contact Nikon? The spots were in the upper left corner only, just as they were prior to the recall.

This is a real black eye for Nikon, especially with the internet and groups like this who talk together. I had a D600 with the same issue. They cleaned it just before the warranty ran out (before the free cleaning for life) and it was OK for another 5 months. I visited Vancouver BC, came back and downloaded my images and behold, more spots. Lots of them, just like before it was cleaned. I called Nikon and politely told them I couldn't deal with a camera that was going to keep doing this. I said "I can't trek off into the woods before daylight to find the perfect sunrise only to download the images when I get home to find the image has been ruined by the continuing spots." They asked me to send them recent files that had the spots so I did. 3 days later, I received an email stating they were replacing my D600 with a brand new D610.

You might want to call their 800 number and tell them of your frustrations with this issue.

I sent my D600 back when the recall first came out. Nikon cleaned the sensor and replaced the shutter. Just a few months later, I posted a photo on UHH using my brand new 24-70 lens. One poster noticed there were spots in the sky and said so; a real bubble popper. I called Nikon at the 800 number and stated the shutter had been replaced. The tech rep asked for the service number on the paper work. That was the key to getting the D610 replacement.

Suggest that you gather all paper work and have it in front of you before calling the Nikon 800 number.

This is a real black eye for Nikon, especially wit... (show quote)

Yes we are in that process right now. I am sending them the photos and we will see what happens.

Had the same issue with my D600 and after the second go around with Nikon, and my persistence to replace it, they finally capitulated and sent me a D610...this was about 4 weeks ago. Keep at them...they will replace it....

Thank you all, I notified Nikon and even after cleaning my sensor and removing most of the spots. They are reviewing my photos prior to the cleaning. After their review, they will determine if a new camera is warranted. I did reference the service number from April when I had sent the camera in for replacement of the shutter mech. I have to say, Nikon was nice to work with so far and even seemed a little sympathetic.

I would hesitate to buy a d600 for any thing over $650 for body only now
less every year

Same here...keep records, paperwork, send it in for shutter replacement...follow up. Watch your photos...unfortunately, the spots WILL reappear.

I contacted Nikon, sent in sample exposures, they evaluated my (very dirty) exposures and capitulated! Sent me a new D610.

Keep after them.

I had this oil spot problem with my D7000 a few years back and Nikon replaced the Mirror Box which took care of it for good.
Had the dirt problem with my D600. The camera had about 1% of Thailand in it and Nikon cleaned it out. Looks good so far. Bought both cameras at Best Buy.

Mine has been back to them twice. Haven't checked it lately. I try NOT to think about it because it irks me something fierce. Maybe the third time is the charm.

You may have to wait another five months now before the spots show up again - or maybe doubling the number of photos you take will help to speed it along?
I don't know if contacting Nikon now will do any good, after you don't see any spots? But is it normal that this happens? I would say not. I don't own a Nikon, but I've never had to deal with that kind of spots on my sensor/photos.
Under the circumstances, I would NOT have cleaned ... (show quote)

The universal experience seems to be that Nikon works pretty hard even several times to get this fixed and after 3-4 tries, if they can't, they will replace the unit. My experience with Nikon has been 100% positive.

I have been shooting digital forever and have never heard of this problem before.

  I've been shooting Nikon SLRs and DSLRs for 30 years and never encountered this. I think they had a special streak of bad luck with the manufacturing line on the D600.

Nikon just notified me that I will be receiving a new 610 with a 1 yr warranty, 7-10 days after I mail my 600 back to them! Thank you all for advising me to contact Nikon. Im a happy camper. Nikon was excellent to deal with. I contacted them yesterday, sent them a photo from before I cleaned the sensor, told them I cleaned my sensor and the spots were now negligible, currently. They called me today with the good news!

I told you they would replace it. They did the same for me no hassle . The 610 is a bit better camera. When you get it go to your local camera store with the Brand new camera and see If you can trade it in with a few hundred dollars for the 750. Just an Idea
