Can someone recommend a low cost, but good travel tripod. I am going to the Grand Canyon, and to the Slot Canyons and really want to take travel Tripod with me. Any good recommendations would be nice. I don't want to spend alot, since I do have a good one that is to large to travel with.

Florida tl, just trying to get my mind around the terms "low cost", "good" and "travel tripod" in the same thought process makes my head hurt! Have you thought about shipping your current tripod to your hotel or a UPS store near your arrival airport and then shipping home when you're ready to return home? Just an idea.

Adorama is currently showing a Slik model Able 340DX. It is made of titanium so it will be light and is 4 section so it will be compact. At 64.95 it may be just what you need. That is for the legs only so you could add your favorite kind of head.
did not think of that, but with going to about 4 different areas in a week it might not be possible.

You won't be able to use it in the slot canyons very well.

Bridges is correct that "low cost" and "good travel tripod" is sort of an oxymoron. I would suggest you set a max dollar amount and see what is available, legs and head combinations, at B&H, Adorama, etc. I am also a fan of Slik, but be sure to look at some of the other brands. Also, unless you go to the upper Antelope Canyon with the expensive photo session, jethro779 is correct that a tripod is nearly useless with all the people milling about. Or go to one of the other slots in the area. Have a good time. It is a very photographic area that you will be in.

My wife just bought the MeFoto and loves it. I've given it a try and find it quite stable.
If I think I'm really, really going to use a tripod on a trip, I remove the ball head from my regular tripod and pack them in a large suitcase along with my clothes.
If I am traveling with family or friends....I assume that the whole tripod setup process will tax their patience and leave the tripod at home.
I've tried several lower cost, compact tripods and after all is said and done I think I get better pictures by raising my ISO and shutter speed.
Most travel tripods are very short so you either need to assume a very uncomfortable position or raise the center column, at which point the tripod probably becomes pretty unstable and less than worthless.

Greetings from Ocala
I recently purchased a Mefoto after reading several articles. Fits great in my suitcase. I have changed the head to my Acratech GV2 for panoramas. Overall I like the tripod albeit a little short for some uses.
Here's one:
http://nomadicpursuits.com/mefoto-roadtrip-tripod-review/I'm in the planning stages now for a trip to the Grand Canyon and on to Rocky Mountain National Park. I've sent you a PM with a question.
Happy shooting
Slot canyons like antelope are way to busy for a tripod I used a monopod held against a rock and my foot it worked a treat, it is light and quick to set up worked great for me and easy to pack and carry if you hikethere was always a tree or rock to hold it against
The MeFoto has one leg that comes off and serves as a monopod.
