I have had the SX 50 for several years. It's a great camera. I seem to grab it much more than my big DSLR since it's so light and easy to carry. Here is a couple of pictures taken with it in the Traverse City MI area.

I would like to hear from people that have experience with the Canon SX-50.

Hi David,
My "other" camera is a Nikon D80 but since I bought the SX50, I rarely use the dSLR. Other than family photos, the main use is shooting photos for our church website and Bulletin. Since most images will be fairly small, I am not concerned with large photo reproduction.
The camera does have a learning curve and I am still learning more about the SX50 each time I use it. I rarely use the full telephoto capability of the camera but I can see where it is valuable for wildlife shots. I do tend to toss a high percentage of shots, most of which are probably operator error. Linda recently put me onto the HQ burst mode and I found that very useful for photographing flag football in jpg.
I have enjoyed shooting in the RAW mode when I am not shooting volume work. The camera does tend to "hunt" for focus in low light but with patience, it normally will lock on.
Lately I have been experimenting with shooting in Tv priority and setting ISO to auto as well as white balance. The results have been very good. If you like, PM me and I can send you some Flickr links to recent photos. Enjoy your SX60!
Sincerely,
Lee

As a followup, I went by Best Buy so I could put my hands on the SX-50, just for grins. It's really small, isn't it? The other thing is that it doesn't have a view finder. I'll have to think about that. The store didn't have a card in it so I couldn't see the reality of a shot. I hate to purchase one knowing that there is a great chance I might have to return it within my 45 day grace period.

While I was out this morning, I did the same thing as I am considering the Canon as an advanced P&S with a fairly long reach. I could not get past how small it feels in my hands, and honestly, for me, that is a deal killer. So I will now need to check out both the Sony and Panasonic Lumix models that were second and third on my list. I am trying to keep this to around $500.

When looking at the Canon SX line, make SURE you are looking at the SX50 and NOT the SX500/510/520 which do NOT have viewfinders and are much smaller than the SX50.

Clearly I was holding the SX50' and I do understand that it has a view finder. It just felt very small in my hands. I did pick up a Sony Cyber-shot DSC HX300 (similar in size to the 400 model) and it felt better holding it. I still want to check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ200.

I would like to hear from people that have experience with the Canon SX-50. I am considering purchasing a SX-60 simply for a backup and so I can learn a little about the Canon system. I am not jumping the Nikon ship. It appears to be a fun camera and it appears to be quite good and I don't have to get involved with a bunch of glass. Also, does anyone know when the SX-60 will be shipping?

My friend from FB took these pics with her SX50 with a Raynox 250. I have posted these pics before not long ago.

If I remember correctly, the Sony does not shoot RAW which ruled it out for me.

You are correct about the Sony not shooting raw. I am going to wait to see what the SX60 "feels" like once they start shipping them to the stores later this month. The camera body did change slightly so I will wait until I can get my hands on one. Fortunately, there is no rush here to get something right away.

It's a slight bit larger than the SX50, but still very light weight. That's why I bought it for my wife. Her hands are deformed from arthritis, and she can no longer handle her Canon 7D. This was one of her first shots taken with the new SX60. He was about 70 feet from us at the time. They move so fast they can be hard to catch in a good shot.

Great shot. Nice to hear it is slightly larger. I will definitely check it out.
