Wingate sandstone cliffs on the western edge of Comb Wash in San Juan County, UT. The Chinle formation, known for its uranium deposits, sits at the base of the Wingate.
150mm on a D200. Added a bit of grain after LR pp; definitely cropped. Miss the area but not the 110 degree heat in which this was taken ...
This is a follow up post to recommendations provided in a recent post in the Photo Critique section.
Nice capture!!! that has to be a hard shot to make correctly!

That is a nice one...well done.
I definitely think this is an improvement, especially in the foreground. I might dial it back a notch or two though on the two cliffs toward the back.
Wall hanger, Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I agree that I might have been getting a bit bright in the rear once I boosted the overall image. Here is the revision although the difference is slight once converted to jpg. I really like the center of the image but I just don't have the resolution in the original to make it work.
I know I checked store original on the initial post but something must have happened. Didn't pick up on that until this morning.

I guess this means you will have to make a trip back. :) Can I come too? :-D

Most definitely, but I'm calling shotgun ...
I traveled with a gps logger for the entire three weeks and a gps tagging to one of the bodies. This shot happened to have the gps coordinates embedded directly so I know exactly where to go back to :-D but in any event, it is one of my favorite spots so I could get there regardless.
A bit south and pretty much at the paved road is a wonderful location as the sun sets and lights up the cliff faces but I've never managed to capture one of those. I came close by accident years ago but the dreaded "card full" appeared and by the time I pulled another, it was gone. :-(

 That would have been terribly disappointing. If I have to drive we will be stopping a lot.
Seriously though I hope to someday get to Utah and spend lots of time there.

You don't know what you are missing. There are some really great out of the way areas with fabulous color. I go to find cool rocks and photos are a fortunate byproduct.
Excellent shot, Bob, and very well composed!
