...this was one smart spider, and huge! I didn't get a shot of him, but I did see him!! Apparently he lives in this small piece of hose that we have on our tree, with a rope inside to keep the tree upright.
I've never seen a web like this and had to share!!!

...he could have trapped my Buster in there!!

Oh my gosh, the work that went into building that! Super-neat photos, Angela. It's a funnel weaving spider. One variety:

Dan, now that I realize he's there, I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can get a shot. I know nothing about spiders, but and elephant spider sounds pretty big! He was big, but not the size of an elephant!! lol...
Thanks for looking and for taking the time to comment!!

Thanks Paula!!! I need to keep an eye out for him and hopefully get a decent shot! I spritz it with water so it would look nice, but he was smart and hid right back in the hose!

Sheet Web spiders and Funnel Web spiders makes similar webs http://www.spiderzrule.com/spiderweb.htm but are quite different looking spiders.

Sheet Web spider has a body shape similar to a Black Widow spider, and a Funnel Web spider has a body shape similar to a Wolf spider. Have you viewed your spider?

Thanks for looking Nikonian, I believe it is a wolf spider from the quick glance I did get of him. I looked at the link Linda sent me and it looked like that. I'm going to be watching and hope I can get a good shot of him!

Wow! Looks like the one I keep running into in our front yard. :-D These are beautiful, Angela. I just love the way a web shines in the sunlight.
