Folks, my wife insisted we get up early in the morning to make the drive over the mountains from Tennessee to North Carolina. She wanted to see the Elk in the Oconaluftee area which is near Cherokee NC. I was skeptical and wanted to stay in my nice warm comfy bed. But agreed...so after several cups of coffee we headed out at 4:30am. Having passed through Gatlinburg on the journey east...we came across this view as light gave way to dark and mist from the night rises over the valley. Now this isn't anything current. I think I took this in 2012.

That is a beautiful early morning view of the mountains. I don't really know the area that well. Is that anywhere near Newfound Gap. I spent a few days in that area when my wife was on the Appalachian Trail. I picked her up at Newfound Gap and then, a few days later, sent her on her way toward Virginia from there as well.

Ok Erich...this is from Google maps, in this map image we were traveling along hiway 441 from the north to the south. There is a big turn in the road which gives this view of Mt. Le'Conte (that's the peak your seeing in this image. My arrow indicate where the my photo was taken. Where you met your wife on her hike is a bit further down the road at the Tennessee/North Carolina border, I've marked that for you also.

I know Angela...she knows best. She's my compass in life and guides me right. I love her. Right now she's in West Virginia tracing her family history. I couldn't make the trip because I'm stuck at home with our children. Six wonderful fur covered kitties. This is a trip her and her sister always wanted to take. They are both investigating their roots, visiting cemetery's and spending time together exploring their family history and being sisters. If I'd been along...I would have been to demanding making sure the backgrounds on the shot were nice(ha). Love your stuff Angela...

You are a wonderful husband James, and it's nice to know love is still alive, as with me and my hubby of 34 years! I too have 6 furballs and a dog, and that's the reason we never get to go away.... my children are all out of the house, and no one here to watch my animals, and I would never put them in a kennel. So we are home bodies and just do day trips. Good luck to your wife, hope she finds out all she can of her roots!!

We both love animals so much and I know you do too. We have a cat we named Yellow...because he's yellow but he also kind of a scardy cat. He may be Yellow because he doesn't like to fight, but he cuddles up to me every night. There's nothing more comforting than falling asleep with a kitty laying next to you who purrs you to sleep. Best feeling in the World. And the best part is...they all love your unconditionally. Even when your having a bad day...they seem to know and are there to give you all the love they have.

Nice to hear from you Randy...a cup full of Maxwell House and I'm ready to get closer to the door. Another cup and I'm in the car. Another cup and we're on our way. Another cup and we're pulling over at the closest gas station to pee all that coffee out. But the scenery was nice...
