I tried to shoot the Milky Way in the film days and it was a pain. The film speed (not to mention the grain) was nowhere near what we have now and adding the reciprocity corrections it was hard to get decent shots without star streaks. Luckily digital has overcome "most" of these issues.
So after seeing some beautiful shots from members here I gave it a try last night at the Shenandoah SkyLine drive.
Hardest thing was working in the dark. I had a flash light to "paint" the foreground a little but that thing died on me after one hour.
Hope you like it.
I like #3, nice capture!!!

Nice photo's...#3 is my favorite. I would like to have seen less light in 1 & 2..nice job.
Very nicely done. Would you mind sharing your settings? Thanks for sharing the photos.
Good shots, Clemens! I like #3.
Thank you all for the nice comments.
I had the ISO set at 6400 with an aperture between 2.8 and 4. Most where shot at 20 seconds. Camera was the a7r with the CZ 16-35 2.8 at 16mm. The 20 second kept me comfortable in the 500 rule to avoid streaks (with the 16mm focal length full frame)I have been reading about how to focus. I had it set at infinity because I really couldn't see if these little dots where in focus. If the Milky Way is not at infinity then what is? To be honest with these settings the EVF suck ( I couldn't see much till after the picture was taken. Next time I might bring the a900 with me but then the ISO is not that great. Compromising all the time. But I had a lot of fun and that all that matters no matter what the outcome was especially painting the forground with my flash.
