Okay so I have decided to buy the NIkon d5300 camera. I have come across a good used Nikon SB600 flash . My question is: Will this flash work with d5300 or do I need to go to an SB800? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
I use a Nikon SB-600 on my Nikon D5200. You will have no problem.
Thank you. I appreciate the input.

It will work fine. As will the SB700, which is more affordable than the 900 and good for most uses.
I'm not sure if there is an SB800.
BTW I bought the SB700 for my D5100. I found I hardly ever use it because of the marvelous high ISO capability of that camera. The D5300 is even better I think. Unless you are really into flash you needn't be in a hurry to get one.
I now use it from time to time with my D800 but could certainly get along without it. The only time I've really liked having it is in caves.

I know you will get the correct answer here, but for future reference, and for different accessories, if you submit the name of the accessory, the camera, and the model number to a Google search with the term, "compatibility guide", you will get some really good guides you can print out and have handy....They are especially useful for things like flashes, where the wrong one can physically damage a camera.

.
Yes, it was the "big brother" of the SB 600 and predecessor of the SB 900/910
I have two of them. I like the SB 910 much better.
