Wedding Photogs: A question about creating albums

When a client wants gift albums of selected wedding pics to send to elderly relatives etc, do you, the photog, add the text, or do you leave text out - make it pictures only. I can see it could get messy fast if the couple wanted to control the whole arrangement. This is a grey area for me:? I don't do many weddings and in the past this has not come up.

I'm not a pro, but I would leave the wording up to the customer. They select the pictures, so let them decide on the text.

When I do albums, I tell customers, you provide me the pictures that goes in the album. I will design it my way, they proof read the album - NO TEXT - only three changes are allowed. They are happy.

"Doing" an album can be very creative and rewarding--but--it is a lot more work than photographing in wedding in the first place--

I recently did an album about our 2 month vacation this year. You are right about it being a lot more work than just taking the pictures. I did mine I put some writing then sent it to my husband to proof read what I had put. He suggested some changes which I liked. I enjoyed doing it, just wish I had put more pages. I left some good pictures off.

We design the album and layout, but if they want to add text, then yes, absolutely, we add text. (they come up with what they want, we lay it out) I'm all about keeping our customers happy. I'd say 90% of our business comes from referrals.
