I think their load limit is having enough air to breathe.

Wow, I never traveled with any of those planes.

And Braniff, probably went out of business because they painted their planes strange colors and had a designer make uniforms for the hostesses that were actually three in one! :D

Thanks for sharing, Jerry, had I not seen this, I would never have known how air travel once was.

It is most unfortunate that the standard today is that cattle and pigs being transported to Montfort Packing Company for slaughter are treated better than airline passengers.

Pigs are a product with a profit. They haven't thought of a way to get more money out of people - yet.

Ah, the old days....when flying was still fun. One of my buddies, when rotating out of Vietnam, flew home on a chartered Continental Airlines Plane....The pilot came on the intercom prior to takeoff and announced, "Welcome aboard Continental Airlines for your return home...Remember, we are the big proud bird with the big Brass Ass."

I wonder why they stopped announcing that. :D

That's why I fly myself whenever I can! It really doesn't have to be crazy expensive like people think. An older Cessna 172 can cost less than a new car. I get about 18 miles per gallon of gas, fly at about 120 miles per hour and the best part, there are no stop signs, no red lights and no cops taking radar!

I highly recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it!

Going out for the $100 hamburger is a real treat. Several years ago I was fumbling around the house with my other half and we were trying to decide where to go for dinner. I looked at her after calling the FBO to see if they had anything available for that evening, told her to grab her purse...we were going to the Lake of The Ozark s for Dinner. It is about 100 miles away, so after a pleasant flight down we had seafood at one of the nicer restaurants, then a leisurely sunset flight back up to St Louis' Sprit Airport. Wonderful evening..the type memories are made of.

[quote=dljen]Wow, I never traveled with any of those planes.

I travelled back from Africa to the UK on a BOAC Flying Boat in 1950 when I was 6 years old. It took several days and being a stewardess (as they were called in those days) was the job every little girl wanted and on that flight the stewardess let me help her serve dinner. White linen tablecloths, flowers, cut glass (crystal) and silverware. I was absolutely mortified when I spilt somebody's coffee on the cloth, and was too ashamed to help any more. It has obviously scarred me for life, since I have never forgotten!

I remember the in-flight movies but never flew on a plane with sleeping berths or a piano. That would have been nice. I can't imagine how bulky it would feel to be wearing three different uniforms on top of each other. Would have been nice to have larger restrooms.

up to 2001 I made 62 yrs without getting on a plane, since then I have plenty of reasons to avoid them.
